Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power Co (TADAWUL:2082) has sealed a power offtake deal with the National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan for Central Asia’s largest wind farm, the 5-GW Aral project in the northwestern autonomous region of Karakalpakstan.

The USD 4.85-billion (EUR 4.51bn) power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed on the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum and along with the inauguration of the 100-MW first phase of ACWA Power’s Riverside solar park in Uzbekistan, the Saudi group said on Friday.

Aral Wind is an independent power producer (IPP) project and will be realised to generate clean electricity for roughly 4.5 million homes in Uzbekistan. The capacity will be installed in five phases, with the output estimated at some 18,500 GWh annually when the entire complex goes online.

ACWA Power currently has 10.1 GW of renewable assets in its portfolio in Uzbekistan. Aral Wind is its 15th project in the Central Asian country and will bring its overall investments in the market to USD 13.9 billion.
